Sharp fangs, a large bulbous head, a scaleless body, and a dorsal spine that protrudes directly from between the eyes carrying a bacteria-fueled bioluminescent lantern that lures unsuspecting prey towards its huge mouth - the black seadevil is indeed a threatening looking creature that lurks in the deep, deep sea.
Recognized for its potential to invoke horror, films such as Star Wars: Episode 1 and Finding Nemo, have looked to the black seadevil and its anglerfish kin as inspiration for some terrifying creatures.

In early 2025, photographer David Jara Boguñá was scuba diving with researchers off the coast of Tenerife and miraculously captured a black seadevil on video, swimming vertically up toward the surface.
Since black seadevils reside in the deep sea at 650 and 6,500 feet beneath the surface, it is incredibly rare to see one in waters lit by daylight.
On February 5, 2025, less than 48 hours before the North Node and Neptune conjoined in Pisces, the photographer posted his black seadevil video as a reel on Instagram with the Phantom of the Opera Overture as the appropriate background soundtrack:
The reel went viral.
The 6-inch, fang-toothed black seadevil (who tragically died shortly after the video was taken) captured the hearts of many, catalyzing TikTok reels of people being moved to tears watching it slowly swim up towards the sun.
The Today Show called the anglerfish a folk hero; representing “a symbol of hope and the possibility of opening up a new world - even if only for a moment.”
Can you feel the otherworldly, inspiring, heart-achingly beautiful yet tragic vibes of the black seadevil’s brief moment of fame?
The imagery carries the energy of Neptune (god of the sea) in Pisces (the water sign associated with endings) being amplified by the North Node.
As is typical with viral phenomenon, the black seadevil anglerfish spawned a multitude of memes and artistic renditions (which is also Neptunian).
The most frequent narrative projected on to the imagery of the black seadevil swimming up toward the surface was that the anglerfish had emerged from the darkest depths of the ocean in the final moments of its life, to gaze at the sun itself having previously only had the glow of the bacteria-fueled bioluminescent appendage emerging from its spine to light its way.
Artist Harris Fishman, who goes by the Instagram handle @BeetleMoses, portrayed this beautiful tragedy perfectly in the following illustration:
But the wild thing is that Fishman had created and published this cartoon about seven months prior to the black seadevil’s viral moment!!!
This kind of synchronistic time play also feels like Neptune/Pisces to me.
The Today Show reported:
Fishman's original post from July [2024] has received over 276,000 likes, with several comments from the second wave of attention it has received for aligning with the internet's new narrative of the anglerfish.
"Thought you drew this inspired by the recent news about that poor fish but it turns out it was the other way around! That’s incredible and the comic and its message are absolutely beautiful," one commenter wrote about Fishman's cartoon last week.
“I think there’s a very amazing thing when people can find the beauty of something which is kind of ugly on its surface level,” Fishman says.
Neptune conjunct the North Node is the most relevant transit here, but it is also worth highlighting that Saturn was co-present with both of them in Pisces.
Saturn has a longstanding symbolic affinity both with what we might reject for being scary or ugly, as well as with the “devil” himself.

Therefore, we have this monster - what The New York Times called a “deep-sea fish of nightmares” - emerging from the mysterious depths of the ocean (Neptune) to gaze at the Sun, causing people to sob with empathic recognition (Pisces), fully embracing this odd black seaDEVIL fish as a symbol of strength and perseverance (Saturn).
THE ASTROLOGICAL SYMBOLISM IS ON POINT.
But it gets even more mind-blowing.
In Vedic Astrology the North Node is called Rahu, the insatiable head/mouth of the demon dragon who attempts to gobble up the Sun during eclipses.
Here’s an illustration of how Rahu is depicted in Thailand, eating the Sun:
Does this image of Rahu remind you of anything?
Like maybe a black seadevil swimming up toward the Sun with its fang-toothed open mouth???
The astro-nerd in me freaked out when I put this together.
THE UNIVERSE IS MAGIC AND I’M HERE FOR IT.
Again, Neptune and the North Node conjoined (to the degree) literally within 48 hours after the black seadevil video was posted online.
These conjunctions are rare.
For example, the next time Neptune and the North Node conjoin, it will be 2041 while in Taurus, and we will have to wait until June 2175 before Neptune and the North Node meet up in Pisces again.
However, we aren’t yet finished with North Node conjunctions in Pisces… more on that in just a minute.
I want to mention one other incredibly symbolic event that made global headlines around the same time.
On February 8, 2025, within 24 hours of the exact Neptune-North Node conjunction, 24-year-old Adrián Simancas was swallowed whole by a humpback whale.
And then spit back out.
??!!
Adrián had been kayaking off the coast of Chile with his father when this happened - and his father somehow managed to capture this on a video that you can watch here.
According to the experts quoted in this article, due to the anatomy of a humpback whale Adrián was in no danger of descending further down into its digestive track, but still.
It is not everyday that a person is swallowed whole by a massive sea creature and lives to tell the tale.
To summarize, as the insatiable dragon’s mouth (the North Node) conjoined with Neptune (the god of the sea) in Pisces, there was another astounding event that featured a big mouth and a sea creature.
Astrologer Maurice Fernandez (with assistance from someone he names as Belen Landi) amazingly was able to contact Adrián who graciously provided his birthtime!
Adrián is intrinsically connected to the oceans by way of having Neptune rising conjunct his Aquarius Ascendant, Sun and North Node in Cancer, and Moon in Pisces.
Adrián Simancas is quoted as saying “that the experience has left him with a deeper respect for nature.” (The Guardian)
At the time he was swallowed by a whale, the Neptune-North Node conjunction in Pisces was tightly square Adrián’s Jupiter placement. Jupiter is a signifier of “big” things, creatures, and experiences.
Furthermore, Mars retrograde was transiting his Sun in Cancer (confronting danger in the water), the Moon was conjunct his North Node in Cancer, Pluto was hovering on his Ascendant, and, as Maurice discovered, at that time the Sun and Mercury were transiting Adrián’s natal placement of an asteroid name Jonasz - which sounds a whole lot like Jonah!
If you spent any time in Bible school as a kid, you’ll be familiar with the story of Jonah who was swallowed by a whale for three days and three nights until Jonah promised to be obedient.
Then, “the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land” (Jonah 2:10).
Again, I’m getting major North Node/ Rahu vibes from this image:

Neptune has since moved on into Aries, but both Venus and Mercury are retrograding their way through conjunctions with the North Node in Pisces this week, active from about March 31st - April 4th, 2025.
So this week keep your eyes, ears, heart and soul, alert for messages from the deep, deep sea - messages of hope, of inspiration, of adventure, of otherworldly awe.
If you fear life’s dark depths, remember that the glow of a bacteria-fueled bioluminescent appendage may be just around the corner.
If you are feeling drained of your vitality and hope, remember that the light of the Sun could be just a few fin strokes away.
If you are in over your head, being engulfed by life’s overwhelming chaos, remember that the whale swallowed - and then spit out - Adrián Simancas.
At the time, Adrián thought he had been eaten. But now he’s looking forward to heading back into the ocean with his kayak.
Remember.

That is amazing!
Beautiful! 🐋 💙
